View the critically-acclaimed documentary, Miss Representation, and join the YWCA's and Commission on the Status of Women's call-to-action campaign empowering women and girls to discuss and challenge limiting labels in order to realize their full potential. Broad Topics - TV for smart, funny women - will cover the show with audience discussion featuring YWCA Girl Central middle and high school girls. Day 1 (Friday, May 18, 6:00 to 9:00 pm, YWCA)
  • View the critically acclaimed documentary Forks Over Knives
  • Become knowledgeable about the scientific basis of plant-based eating through discussions with Julieanna Hever, MS, RD, CPT, author of The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition and recently seen on The Doctor Oz Show
Day 2 (Saturday, May 19, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Santa Monica Farmers' Market and The Gourmandise School)
  • Tour Santa Monica's Main Street Farmer's Market with Amelia Saltsman, award-winning author of The Santa Monica Farmers' Market Cookbook
  • Participate in hands-on lunch preparation with Amelia at The Gourmandise School of Sweets & Savories, a hands-on culinary school with a focus on teaching classic techniques using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, using products you select that morning from the Farmer's Market
  • Share a group-prepared lunch with other participants
  • Design your own customized eating plan with nutritionist Cari Schaeffer, MA, TCM, LAc
  • Learn strategies for using food to prevent disease, discuss food issues that impact our community, and find out how you can make a difference through community service

Yoga changed my life and has the power to change many lives. I believe that the lessons I've learned and am writing about will empower other people to transform their lives. The Yoga Blend community is coming together once again to use our yoga practice for a cause: to raise awareness for lung cancer and garner much-needed funding for vital research.
