Food Access Coalition Team (FACT) – Their mission is to improve food access & security for low income families. We have a total population of about 9.9 million in L.A, 3 million of them are kids, a total 1.5 million live in or below poverty (more than half a million of them are kids). Eating Healthy on a Budget is a free resource provided byUSDA (our government). Those who really need help can find a food pantry at L.A. Food Bank - With unemployment at 12% in L.A, the demand for food assistance continues to increase. The  L.A. Food Bank has been rated as a four star charity by Charity Navigator and has been awarded the “Best in America” seal from Local Independent Charities of America so you can donate with confidence (knowing that every dollar will make a difference).
Cal Fresh or SNAP (Better Food, Better Living) is another free resource. Check out 10 Steps to Help You Fill Your Grocery Bag Through SNAP. Find 100s of recipes with per serving cost of less than $.25Head Start also has lots of information. 211 LA is a private, nonprofit  information and referral (I&R) service that helps people in L.A by providing free, confidential services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in English, Spanish and more than 140 other languages. If you or someone you know earn $1,174 gross or $903 net or less per month, you're eligible for Cal Fresh or SNAP. 1 million people in L.A qualify for assistance, but are not participating. For details, call 323-234-3030 ext. 187 or go to http://cfpa.net
