Anti-Bullying Festival

Say NO Bullying program's mission is to increase awareness of bullying. Kids
who appear different than their peers are more at risk. Many kids are bullied but do not tell others.
This frequently results in undiagnosed depression and anxiety and sometimes more tragic results. It is critical that all kids who get bullied be identified so they have an opportunity to talk about the situation(s) and receive follow-up services if necessary.

Say NO Bullying Festival on Sat. Aug. 13th
1-5 pm
Park Center, Griffith Park,  L.A. 90027

Body Image & Self Esteem

Summer is here and swimsuit season means that we will show our flaws in public. I am body conscious like many women and since I used to be fat, I have a negative view of the media. The models in ads and magazines look too good to be real, they're young, beautiful and thin or fit. Appearance matters because that's how people make their first impression. It's shallow, but true. I was judged not for my creativity, my love of kids and animals, but on my weight. I suffered from low self-esteem because I was bullied and called stupid. That left scars and they remain even after many years of maintaining a healthy weight. I still feel insecure in a swimsuit outside of the water. Once I'm immersed, I feel light and free. My ideal place to swim is an outdoor pool with few or no people around and l got to do that in Japan at the hotel where I stayed in. I had jet-lag, woke up around 6 a.m, went to the pool  in the 24-hour gym, signed in with my room number and plunged in. I happily swam laps until I was tired and even soaked in the hot tub for a while. I was alone and didn't have to worry about how I looked. I realized that I shouldn't concern myself about others opinion of me, especially strangers.

So let's love our bodies and stopping picking on our flaws. Be grateful for our health and focus on our assets. Be good to your body - hydration, nutrition and exercise are 3 keys to health. Drink plenty of water, eat fresh local foods (stop when you're 70% full), exercise (do something that you enjoy). I love yoga and walking, so I do both.

Yoga, Juice & More

I love yoga because it reminds us to be present and take deep breaths. We are only here on this earth for a short while, but it is the quality of life (not quantity) that counts. I am constantly stressed out by traffic, my job and now my car. I was in a small accident and got a dent on my bumper. I really need yoga to help me let go and relax. The body stores stress in our necks, shoulders and hips. We may feel a constriction in the chest or an upset stomach. Yoga helps release stress and renew our balance. There is no competition or judgement. We focus on getting in touch with our bodies and the inner wisdom (quiet place) that is within us. We realize that happiness lies within us if we only take time to notice. I am excited to be presenting a new Free Yoga event. Check it out.

Beauty, Hydration & Health

70% of our bodies is water. We are what we eat and drink yet *75% Americans are dehydrated. All of us want to be healthy and when you take care of yourself through good habits, you look and feel good.  I am passionate about hydration. I always have a glass bottle filled with water close at hand or when I'm out and about, I bring a metal one (in case I drop it so it won't break). Many people mistake thirst for hunger and reach out for junk food to fill their need. My mission is to empower you to get the best filtered water, the best beauty tips and the best fitness advice to be healthy inside out. I've been in the health and wellness field since 2007 when I got really sick (bronchitis) but didn't have health insurance. I tried many natural remedies to no avail. No Obamacare back then, so I tried to go to a community clinic, but they were filled with people who were much sicker. So, I paid $100 to visit a doctor and get antibiotics. I got better in a few days. After that, I resolved to take back my health and got certified as a yoga teacher. Then, I started a Yoga Meetup and did some fun, healthy events. It grew to a Healthy Networking Club with 50+ active members. I also started to blog about health and wellness. I tried many "healthy" products, some good and some bad. I looked into alkaline water, Britta and Zero filters. I even tried charcoal filters. I tried many beauty products and even partnered with a company that makes "natural" products. I continued to teach yoga and blog. Then, my dad got sick and I took time off to help care for him. That hurt my business and I had to get a "job" to pay the bills. Even with a full-time "job", I didn't neglect my healthy routine of hydration, nutrition and exercise. I don't believe in diets, juice cleanses or any new fads that promise rapid weight loss. Being healthy and strong is a lifelong process. There is no quick fix.

IDEA World Fitness Expo & Jillian Michaels

I went to IDEA World Fitness Expo early in the morning today to join the Pilates Workshop presented by Kim Kraushar & learned some new moves. After that, I walked from Marriott Hotel to the L.A Convention Center to check out the Expo. As part of the Blog Fest, I got a great swag bag & loved all the samples. I think it was the best fitness expo I've ever been to. The only thing I don't like is that the workshops I signed up for were all at Marriott & not at the Convention Center. So, it was impossible to get to some of the Showcases from the Expo with the time that I had allotted. Some things that I really love are:

Sweet Earth Natural Food's Curry Tiger Burrito with 19g of protein
Carrot Ginger soup @Soupure
Arctic Zero Brownie Blast www.arcticzero.com
Free massage www.myobuddy.com
Free InBalance 300 Body Analysis - my overall score is 86/100 so there's room for improvement inbalance.co.kr
www.Fitapproach.com Sweat Pink community
www.JillianMichaels.com Q&A session

I love the Light the Fire Vinaysa Flow Yoga Workshop led by Kimberly Spreen. She was the best yoga teacher I've ever had because she made it easy for the class to connect with our true self where the love & passion lies by reminding us that we are beautiful and worthy just by being alive. She urged us to chip away at the walls that we built to protect ourselves so we can let our light & love shine. I came away from the class with renewed commitment to evolve and be my best self. I am not letting doubts & fears get in the way of my dreams. I believe that my mission on this earth is to be a Brand Ambassador & Blogger. For a while, I gave up on that dream or put it on hold. The time has come to realize my mission & purpose.

Mix It Up

On 4th of July weekend, I had a personal training session with Lexi. I worked on my core, plus my arms and functional exercises like squats. I also toned my butt, my abs and legs while working out with a sand bag and battle ropes. The next day, I went to a Barre Burn class where we worked out with free weights. My thighs and calves were sore the day after.

I also work out with a buddy during the weekdays at lunch break. We'd do yoga, Zumba and workout DVDs. We help keep each other accountable and motivated. I signed up for some Hip Hop Dance classes on Sundays. I'm also going to IDEA Fitness Convention classes:

STOTT PILATES®: Mini Stability Ball™ Workout

Light the Fire: Vinaysa Flow

STOTT PILATES®: Intermediate Matwork

I really like Pilates as it tones my abs and is low impact.
