Agape's 19th Annual Sacred Service Saturday

Back to the Beach and Beyond
Pick up ~ Clean Up ~ Wake Up at Agape's Adopt-A-Beach Program. Learn and support Heal the Bay’s vital study of the origin of beach debris. And a surprise Ballona adventure too! You do make a difference! A great family project. Everyone welcomed!

Adopt the Learning Garden  Create the new Fiber Arts Garden Bed at The Learning Garden, Agape's adopted neighborhood botanical garden. Prepare and plant cotton, flax and other plants that provide natural dyes. The garden is located at nearby Venice High School. All ages welcomed.

Safe Place for Youth
SPY finds, stabilizes and assists homeless youth under the age of 25. We will help put together food packets and maybe do some gardening as well. Ages 15 and up. Action Agape            (310) 348-1260       ext. 1515  
Alcoholism Center for Women ACW’s mission is supporting the recovery from and prevention of alcoholism and other drug-related problems among all women at high risk for substance abuse. We will be doing some gardening projects at this wonderful safe haven and beacon of hope. 18 years and older.

George Washington Carver Middle School Outdoor Classroom
Help nurture this brand new green education resource in mid city LA. We will assist with their fruit tree orchards and vegetable gardens.

The Children’s Nature Institute
Since 1985, CNI has provided hands-on educational programs tailored specifically for the children of Los Angeles. These programs are designed to open young minds to the living world. More than 4,000 runners are expected to gather in Santa Monica for the seventh annual Santa Monica Classic. The event, which includes both 5K & 10K races, will continue the tradition of raising awareness for the environmental non‐profit Heal the Bay (http://www.healthebay.org). Heal the Bay began out of this grassroots effort and since then more than 100,000 volunteers and supporters have made incredible strides in improving the quality of the Santa Monica Bay, the beaches and neighborhoods. New this year is a $1,050 prize purse that will be split among the first three male and female finishers of the 10K race. There will also be an Expo on the Pier. Runners still have time to sign up for the Santa Monica Classic. Registration and pre‐race packet pick‐up will be available on Saturday, May 19th, at Sports Chalet on 11801 West Olympic Boulevard in West Los Angeles from 10:00am to 4:00pm, or near the start line at 2600 Barnard Way in Santa Monica beginning at 6:30am on race day. http://santamonicaclassic.com

Lunch and Learn

During the Lunch & Learn at Westside Family Health Center, we talked about how public funding of family planning prevents about 1.94 million unintended pregnancies, including 400,000 teen pregnancies, resulting in 810,000 fewer abortions and saving taxpayers $4 for every $1 spent on family planning. 99% of women have used birth control at some point in our lives, but the conservative right-wing attacks on basic women's healthcare access threatens our right to choose.
