4/20 Health and Fitness fair at UCLA

The Pacific Islander community in California are highly susceptible and more likely to be obese or diagnosed with diseases related to obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and various heart problems. The health fair has welcomed role models such as Hines Ward, Troy Polamalu, and Jillian Michaels to contribute and give workshops to the youth--all in an effort to instill healthy habits and promote a healthier more active lifestyle for the Pacific Islander and Native Hawaiian community.
This year we will have various musical acts, pacific islander fitness experts, a health fair, exercise workshops such as rugby and hula, as well as a healthy lunch! Come out and support the cause, would love to have some Movers there!

Nutrition Education Grant

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to solicit proposals for contracts with approximately 12 community based organizations, cities, and/or school districts in Los Angeles County to provide nutrition education in low-income communities.  Selected providers will participate in community assessment, program evaluation, and one of three primary categories: peer-to-peer education, youth engagement, or faith-based education.

Selected providers will receive approximately $325,000 for one year, with the option to extend the term for two additional years at the same funding level, contingent on availability of funds.  Proposers will have the opportunity to submit written questions regarding the RFP; details for submitting questions are included in the RFP document.
